Re: 1:1 and home support

Dave,

I receive similar request every year from a small minority of parents.
We provide a support matrix that includes after hours and holiday
support contacts and phone numbers.

St. Agnes provides onsite laptop support from 7:30-4:30 daily
Lenovo or Fujitsu provides 24x7 telephone support for their product
(after hours support or holiday).
We recommend one local vendor for laptop service in the event we are
closed.
Internet support is provided by your broadband vendor.
Wireless router support is provided by either the broadband vendor (if
vendor supplied) or the manufacture.

I do not recommend personal content filters. =20
If a parent needs basic home content filtering I recommend opendns.com.

Subject: 1:1 and home support

Hello All,

We're in our first year of one-to-one and we have an issue that's been
particularly challenging. I'm sure all of the 1:1 schools would agree
that ubiquitous access is critical at school AND at home. Our challenge
is home support; including parents that want web filter support. A
significant number of parents feel that because the school requires the
laptop, the school should provide support for home use. The biggest
issues we face are home wireless not working and parents demanding a web
blocker at home. =20
In both examples, the parents are basically telling us that the school
should provide installation and support for these things. =20

It would be very helpful to learn what you policy is for home support.

Thanks in advance,
