Re: A question about citing sources

Hi Karen=2C
=20
I am a K-8 computer teacher. I introduce a concept of citation in 3rd grade=
=2C requiring kids to copy and paste URL of the image or website that is be=
ing used for their projects. In 4th grade I start requiring adding a title =
of an article or page they use. In 5th grade I teach kids basics of plagiar=
ism through exercise in which they need to rephrase a paragraph or two from=
the website- they have to include original and modified version.
Starting with 6th grade I show both APA and MLA and require formal citation=
of sources=2C however students may chose one of the formats that they unde=
rstand better.
I realize though that about 50% of my students are having really hard time =
putting all the components of citation together.
=20
After struggling with all this=2C middle school teachers and I agreed that =
as long as all the souces are stated (close to either APA or MLA) we will g=
ive full credit for bibliography.
=20
Hope this will help you=2C
