Re: wireless printer help

Some thoughts based on only 2 years with carts:=0A=A0=0A1.=A0 If you have o=
ne with color, that will be the one everyone wants.=A0 Any cart with a perc=
eived advantage will receive the highest use.=0A2.=A0 I had a wireless base=
station with the printer directly wired into one of the ports.=A0 We conne=
cted the base station via Ethernet=A0to a jack in the classroom.=A0 Conveni=
ent since almost all floor level plugs had network jacks beside them.=A0 Th=
is ensured the addition of 20 laptops to a given point in the campus wirele=
ss network did not overwhelm it.=A0 Depending on the robustness of your wir=
eless network this may not be an issue.=A0 =0A3.=A0 I have had very mixed r=
esults with connecting a printer via wireless, especially with print queues=
.=A0 The basic problem being that to diagnose an issue, I almost always had=
to plug the printer into an Ethernet jack and pull up the web config page.=
=0A4.=A0 Avoid infra-red.=A0 I used it with Alphasmart Dana's and it was fi=
ne for simple text based printing, but a voodoo-ish body of knowledge on ma=
king printing work was not conducive to understanding tech (Actual examples=
:=A0"Turn of the lights to make the printer work"; "Turn your Dana sideways=
to make it work"; "You have to wait a few minutes between print jobs so th=
e light has time to stop bouncing around").=A0 Teachable moments ... perhap=
s.=0A5.=A0 Make sure you carts are rated to power the printer you are buyin=
g.=A0 Laser printers suck amps and can easily trip lower end surge protecto=
rs and power strips.=0A6.=A0 Make sure you have paper storage somewhere on =
the cart.=0A=A0=0A_J=0A=A0=0A=0A=A0____________________________=0AJason at =
