Re: policy on social media use during school hours

Here is the applicable wording from our faculty Technology AUP. It is the i=
ntroductory paragraph of our AUP. It is followed, of course, by a series of=
bullet points listing our policies. While not specifically highlighting so=
cial media, "educational pursuits" is broad enough that it can be translate=
d that twitter/facebook/etc can be used for educational purposes but not so=
cial purposes during school hours.

Village School provides a wide array of technology resources for employee u=
se. Technology resources and the school network are provided for educationa=
l pursuits and are intended for the purpose of teaching and learning. This =
agreement, along with the employee handbook, outlines appropriate use when =
using email, the internet, and other technology resources. Village School e=
mployees' use of technology resources is expected to reflect appropriate st=
andards for professional conduct as determined by your supervisor or as spe=
cified in your contract.

In addition to this, our employee handbook states, "Personal cell phones mu=
st be turned off during school hours except during breaks and should only b=
e used in the faculty lounge or off campus." This is one of those rules tha=
t is not policed, but could be enforced in the case of an employee using th=
eir phone excessively for calls and/or accessing social media on their own =
equipment/network during school hours.
