Re: Computer Science and Technology Courses

Hi Carol,

We require a =BD credit Computer Applications course to fulfill =
graduation requirements. Our students have demonstrated proficiency for =
the majority of the NETS standards by the completion of 8th grade so we =
don't focus on many of the basic skills in US. The purpose of the =
Applications course is to verify that our students are technologically =
proficient for the types of assignments that our US teachers will assign =
during the course of the year since we are a 1:1 school. Units must be =
continually revised depending on the technologies available. It seems =
like we have had to revise much more the past few years because our =
teachers continually find great new tools that they want to integrate. =
We try to do as much as possible in the Computer Applications course to =
save class time. Typical project based units include: Personal =
productivity (One Note, Google Docs, Outlook, etc), Computer Maintenance =
(backing up, setting up wireless, etc), Internet Safety, Programming (we =
have used Alice for the past 5 years), Website design, Photo and Video =
Editing, Web 2.0 skills (wiki's, blogs, Glogster, etc.), Digital =
Literacy, and we do still include some of the advanced functionalities =
of Office. =20

Good luck,

Connie

Good morning!

Does your upper school curriculum include technology and/or computer

science as a graduation requirement? If so, what classes fulfill that

requirement?

Thanks!
