iMacs - CS3 & another issue

Happy New School year !

On day 3 of classes the graphic arts students experienced issues
while using Photoshop(part of CS3). When they saved they got the
"spinning ball of death" which required a force quit. I have been
searching the Adobe and Apple forums an found an article: http://
kb2.adobe.com/cps/402/kb402521.html that I will try tomorrow. The
iMacs are newly re-imaged and are running 10.5.7

We also noticed that at start up and/or logout from the network the
workstations hang with nothing but the desktop background(no icons,
dock, etc. ). I thought this was a 10.5.6 issue . We have to shut
down the computers via the power buttonin order to get them back online.

I would appreciate any insights, solutions, etc.

thanks
