Re: Family conferences

We have tow parent teacher conferences per year and the students in grades =
K-5 attend the second one with their parents (unless they say they do not =
want to, in which case we do not push it). We really like it-- more honest =
exchange of info, helping the child to understand her strengths and =
challenges, giving the students a chance to be publically proud of their =
work, etc.

Some parents still think it is odd, but most like it. If a parent wants =
time alone with the teacher, he or she can schedule that too, of course.

Dear colleagues,

Our school is considering moving to collaborative family conferences in
the 3rd and 4th grades and perhaps lower. Does anyone have experience
with family conferences that include students at the elementary school
level?

Many thanks,
