DIRECTOR OF TECHNOLOGY

The Director of Technology develops, coordinates and manages the
technology program, including assessing technology needs and delivering
services. This individual plans, develops and implements staff
development opportunities and assists users in resolving problems
associated with technology use. He/she works collaboratively with other
faculty and staff members, as well as with students, to increase
technology competencies. The Technology Director purchases hardware,
software and support services to enhance and promote the use of
technology in the school. The employee maintains an inventory of
materials and manages a budget.


Essential Responsibilities:


Administration – Administer and maintain the various components of the
network (Windows Server 2003), backup (Retrospect), fire wall
(SonicWall), virus prevention (ClamWin AV), ISP (Cablevision), spam
filter (Barracuda), Emergency Notification Systems (One Call Now,
Simplelists), Faculty and Staff e-mail system (Google Apps for
Education) and phone system (3Com NBX).


Website – Supports Whipple Hill website in collaboration with the
Director of Communications. Keeps user information in sync with the
Student Information Systems.


Technical Support – Provides user support for all aspects of technology
such as; software use (Grade Quick, Administrator's Plus), desktop
support (Windows, OS X), wireless connectivity (laptops), and peripheral
issues. Maintains support relationships with vendors to allow for
timely resolution of issues.


Training – Determines needs and provides on site training; Works
individually with faculty and students on specific projects; Contracts
with outside trainers to provide supplemental training; Provides users
with information on new technologies, web sites, and activities to
promote technology integration.


Curriculum – With the Technology Integrator, ensures the K-12 technology
curriculum is up-to-date, relevant, purposeful and is properly
implemented in all classrooms throughout grade levels.


Departmental – Supervises Technology Integrator and Client Systems
Support Specialist


Equipment – Purchases, installs and maintains equipment; Trains users on
equipment.


The Director of Technology reports to the Head of School and is
responsible for all issues relating to technology at the school. These
include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following areas:


1. To develop, coordinate and teach workshops and classes on
instructional and administrative applications for computers and related
technologies.

2. To provide technical curriculum assistance regarding hardware usage,
software applications, computer technology, and the general
instructional use of technology in the classroom.

3. To assist in the integration of technology applications across the
K-12 curriculum.

4. To establish systems for educators to access, preview, or receive
training in hardware usage and software applications.

5. To communicate information about training services and research,
including preparing memos and making presentations, accompanied by
handouts and/or training manuals.

6. To model staying current with technological knowledge and skills.

7. To serve as network administrator and to support infrastructure (ex.
Fiber optics, T-1 line, classroom connections.) including hardware
(network server, classroom, computer lab, administrative & laptop
computers), Intranet, internet connection, and website, and software
(virus control, software coordinator, software support, etc.).

8. To perform other duties as assigned by the head of school.

9. To support the school and its leadership.

10. Developing a technology plan for the school.

11. Developing the school's computer operating and capital budgets, and
purchasing, installing and maintaining budgeted items.

12. Planning and supervising internal and external training of the
school's staff.

13. Developing and maintaining the school's databases, and internal and
external networks.

14. Identifying specific hardware/software application needs of the school.

15. Supervising the other members of the department.

16. Responsible for keeping her department's area and content on
the website up-to-date.

17. Member of the Administrative Team, Curriculum Committee,
Board Technology Long Range Planning Committee, Board Education
Committee and Board Marketing Committee
