Job Opening - American School of Bombay

The American School of Bombay is an IB World School that caters to the
educational needs of American and expatriate families based in Mumbai,
India. It is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and
Schools in the USA and supported by the US consulate. It has an
enrollment of approximately 700 students, early childhood through grade
12. The student body is multinational consisting of 45 nationalities,
including 29% Americans, 15% host country, and 56% third country
nationals.=20

ASB is the only overseas American School in the world that has a K-12
Laptop/Tablet program. And since 2001, ASB has been considered a leader

For the 2009-10 school year, we are seeking a full-time Elementary
School Technology Coordinator. Our ES includes PreK to Grade 5, has
approx. 350 students, is one-to-one laptops in grades 3, 4 and 5, and
has a 2:1 ratio in grades 1 and 2.=20

Technology Coordinator Job Description

General qualifications:
- A broad general education and dedication to lifelong learning.
Overall intelligence and perseverance; a strong work ethic; high ethical
standards; self confidence; good time-management skills.
- Knowledge of and support for ASB's educational programs;
appropriate skills in teaching students as well as teachers and other
adults. Knowledge of curriculum, curriculum development, and school
reform. Knowledge of testing and assessment.=20
- Interpersonal relations skills, especially in being a good
listener, skills in written, electronic, and oral communications;
administrative skills.=20
- Technical knowledge in the fields of technology education, and
the broad range of technologies used in educational environments.
Knowledge of the theory and practice of instructional technology.
Substantial experience in working with students and teachers in the
integration of instructional technology. Knowledge of teaching and
learning theory as they relate to the roles of technology in content and
pedagogy.=20

1. Leadership. Develop and implement ASB's plan for instructional
use of technology; the implementation should include provisions for
evaluation and periodic updating. Tasks include:
- Work with principals, grade level team leaders/department heads,
teachers, and others who will help implement the technology plan.=20
- Develop a cadre of division level technology leaders who will
help implement the plan.=20
- Participate in establishing evaluation guidelines so that data
from all divisions can be compared and used as part of a quarterly
evaluation of the tech plan's implementation progress.=20

2. Resource Center. Collaborate to develop an online technology
resource repository to be used by division technology leaders, teachers,
students, and parents. The digital repository may contain software info,
useful websites, tech integration ideas, and other instructional support
materials.=20

3. Resource People. Facilitate the development of technology
oriented leaders at each grade level/department, who can assist the
coordinator in decision-making processes and assist faculty in simple
technical or curricular concerns related to technology. Encourage each
school to develop a list of parents who might volunteer their services
as computer aides or technical assistants. Develop contacts with other
schools to encourage dissemination of effective policies and ideas for
the use and integration of technology in the classroom.

4. Staff Development. Collaborate with Tech Leadership Team to
develop, implement, and periodically evaluate the technology staff
development plan. One goal of this plan should be to identify and/or
help develop resource people in every department and at every grade
level who can provide leadership in the integration of technology in the
classroom. A second goal should be to help all teachers and school
administrators become functionally technology-literate and learn their
roles in accomplishing the technology plan.=20

5. Support. Collaborate with Tech Leadership Team to create a
division-appropriate technology infused environment. Collaborate with
the tech support team to establish an "effective life" for hardware and
software to ensure regular upgrading of equipment and resources.

6. Research and Evaluation. Collaborate in the development and
implementation of a school-wide procedure for evaluation of software,
hardware and technology resources, and for the sharing of the results of
such evaluation. Be actively involved in school research projects to
evaluate technology integration. Design and encourage pilot projects.
For each new "innovation," eventually the leadership team must decide
whether to adopt and implement its use. Pilot studies can help answer
such questions.

7. Information Dissemination. Disseminate technology-related
information throughout the division via news bulletins, presentations at
division level staff meetings, parent tech connections, etc. Be an
active participant in educational technology conferences, including
those not directly related to technology use (perhaps presenting at such
conferences).

8. Tech Integration Advocacy. Lead in the development of curricular
standards and benchmarks to encourage technology integration. Be an
educational change agent. Work with teachers to develop unit/lesson
plans and activities involving use of technology to further attainment
of educational goals. Inform teachers of new technologies or software
that may assist in developing concepts of content areas. Be aware of
technology trends and developments in the field of educational
technology.

9. Technical Competence. Continue to grow as a professional
technology educator and as an educational leader. Be professionally
active at regional or other conferences. Subscribe to and read
educational technology publications. Keep apprised of changes in the
technologies available and directions of future technology development.
Assist faculty and staff in dealing with minor technical issues in order
to maintain a positive attitude among them about the use of technologies
and avoid frustrations and fear of technologies by those teachers
unfamiliar with them. Perform simple maintenance and trouble-shooting
procedures on equipment.
