Re: Ipods

Yeah but they are teenagers. We tell our students not to connect them
and they connect them quite a bit...Currently we are implementing a
Wireless controller but have to have a public vlan. We are looking at
ways of dropping connections on it...Good luck..

We don't block IM'ing. Our policy explicitly puts the responsibility =20
on the student to conduct oneself properly. Attention in the classroom =20
during lectures is expected. Inappropriate activity is not condoned =20
using any medium and is strictly enforced through our discipline =20
process.

We are a laptop school, but the students use a combination of laptop/=20
iPhone/iPod/cell phones for both school work and personal =20
communications. We do have a content filter, but rely on it to assist =20
filtering inappropriate content rather than dictate policy.

You might be able to block the iPods by their MAC address. They should =20
be within a certain range of addresses. That of course depends on your =20
network hardware/software being able to selectively block MAC's. There =20
is also the possibility of blocking certain TCP/UDP ports that support =20
the activities you are trying to stop.

You may spend a lot of time using technology to inhibit unapproved =20
activities, but the students can find a way around. We are finding it =20
much easier to enforce proper conduct than a battle of wit.
