Help with summer reading

Every year summer reading seems to be a battle, and each of the four
Independent Schools for which I have worked has done its summer reading
differently. This year I am hoping to increase =B3buy-in=B2 ahead of time by
tackling (and hopefully solving) the issue early in the second semester.
Our Academic Dean and I have met with our Department Chairs to discuss the
issue, ending up with more questions than answers. We have a preliminary
plan ironed out, but I thought I would ask all of you for input before we
move forward.=20

How do you do your summer reading? Are there schools out there that do not
attach a grade to summer assignments? If there is not a grade attached to
those assignments, do your less-motivated students complete the summer work=
?
What happens to them if they do not complete it?

Thank you in advance for your input, help, and suggestions.

Sincerely,

Brian D. Kelly
