Re: ISED: Insurance for Student Laptop Programs

I'm with Robin. However, I find Safeware to be a little slow on
processing claims. Over the last two years, we've purchased ThinkPad
Protection with our ThinkPad Laptops. We self-insure for theft. We
just don't lose many of them.

Word of advice, use a company that has experience insuring student
laptops. If not, you are likely to shock them and you WILL get dropped
from their insurance. Avoid this on the front end and go with someone
who has experience insuring student laptops.

Take care,
Alex

Barbara, we require any student we give a laptop to, to purchase
Safeware insurance. It's a great policy, and extremely affordable. For
$2000 worth of coverage it costs about $170 per year. It covers against
theft and accidental damage. Our students use Lenovo laptops and,
although they have ThinkPad Protection, I encourage our parents to
purchase Safeware separately, in case the laptop is stolen or damage in
some way that TPP won't cover it.

For more information about Safeware, give them a call at 1-800-800-1492.
