Re: School Dances - Alternatives?

At our school (9-12 boarding) we replaced what had become a traditional =
"welcome back" dance (DJ and dancing that was mortifying to anyone over =
23) with a contra dance. Our Student Life Office hired a band and =
caller and all students and faculty participated. Students held hands, =
executed sometimes tricky dance moves and were exposed to a bunch of new =
faces all in a well-lit gymnasium. You can probably only get away with =
doing it once a year, but I expect this will become a popular part of =
the school culture. It was fun for new students and for adults and =
faculty kids as well. The band we had has worked at other boarding =
schools as well.

Greetings,

I am trying to gain some insight into the variety of events many of =
your schools do as alternatives to the traditional school dance. I know =
that many schools have ceased with dances and I was wondering if any of =
you have experimented with doing the same. Thanks for any feedback you =
can provide.
