Disrupting Class - OT

I know there's been discussion of this book on this list, and I'd like
to ask a couple of question, both decidedly OT.

1. My 7th grader, a straight A student at the local science and math
magnet, is now reading this book. What do I tell him when he asks, as
he most assuredly will, if he can drop out?

2. Is anyone else annoyed by the growing number of non-fiction books
which ought not to be books at all but could be tautly written as
25-40 page papers but, in order to get published and distributed, puff
themselves up with lots of First we'll tell you this-es, then we'll
tell you that-s, and now that we've told you those two things, we're
going to tell you this next one-s?

In peace,
