Students whose handwriting is illegible or students with certain kinds of
writing disabilities are sometimes allowed by the College Board to use a
computer on certain AP exams or the essay part of the SAT Reasoning Test.
In order to make the experience as close as possible to those who are just
handwriting the answers, the College Board mandates that a computer user
may not use spell check, grammar check, or cut and paste. The policy is on
page 74 of the AP 2009 Coordinator's Manual. WordPad is preferable to
Word, because the former lacks spell check and grammar check.
