The Storefront Penny Project

Spurred on by Obama's common usage of trillion, we at The Children's
Storefront are seeking "penny partners" in our quest to gather 1,000,000
pennies and subsequently 1,000,000,000 pennies on 129th Street in Harlem.
Please pass on this e-mail and the Web page of
http://www.cstorefront.org/pennies/ to the community service contact
person (or anyone else) at your school. We are hoping to identify 100
schools to become "penny partners" with us and to have each of the schools
send us/bring us between 1,000 and 10,000 pennies. Yes, I am smart enough
to know that 1,000,000,000 pennies will be a challenge, but to quote Kevin
Garnett of the Boston Celtics, "anything is possible" ;-)

In connecting your school to our school in this potential venture, we hope
there will be mutual benefit in having the kids at various grade levels
SKYPE, e-mail and share solutions to math problems involving pennies.
Today, for example, my eighth graders will be using a spreadsheet to
calculate how much space on 129th street (see
http://www.thechildrensstorefront.org/tech/post129thstreet.jpg) we would
need to use for the billion pennies, along with how much they will weigh.
