Independent international school seeking HS Science and Early Childhood educators

I am the school principal at the Khartoum American School. I am just
finishing up at the University of Northern Iowa Overseas Teachers
Recruiting Fair where I have had the good fortune of meeting with some
excellent educators. One of our candidates, and new teachers,
introduced me to this list and I am hoping to use it to find more
educators who share her dynamism and commitment to independent
education. Our school does not look at the 'hiring process' as one of
finding teachers to fill positions, but rather one of building a team,
so do not hesitate to contact us if you feel an affinity for our
educational mission. In the meantime, please make sure to get in touch
if you are a HS Science or Kindergarten teacher who finds the following
appealing:

The Khartoum American School is an independent international school with
a 52 year history in Sudan. We are a small, dynamic school of 230
students (PK-12) representing almost 40 nationalities. Our staff is
dedicated to the school's mission of achieving academic excellence
through a student-centered program and inquiry-based curriculum, and our
teachers work creatively and collaboratively to do so. KAS is a member
of the National Association of Independent Schools and is accredited by
both the Middle States Association and the Council of International
Schools. Though linked to AERO standards, our curriculum is designed,
evaluated and revised continually by our teachers. Teachers seeking a
student-centered and inquiry-based program and who are uncomfortable
with 'coverage' and textbook-based curricula will find a good
philosophical fit at KAS.

HS Physical Sciences teacher
We are currently seeking a 'hands on/minds on' high school science
teacher able to teach core physical sciences (Physical Science 9,
Chemistry 11 and Physics 12), Advanced Placement Chemistry and to offer
creative elective options. Our semester-long electives are based on
student and teacher interests, and student needs; recent offerings
include Search for Extra-Terrestrial Life, Primitive Technology,
Astronomy, Oceanography, Theories of Everything, Skeptical Inquiry,
Current Issues in Science, Greening the Planet and more. Our core
science program teaches "science as process" as opposed to "science as a
series of facts" and uses student-led investigations in the laboratory,
the classroom and broader community to familiarize students with
scientific content through the scientific method. Students critically
examine the nature of scientific knowledge, and how this knowledge is
best created and evaluated.

Kindergarten teacher
We are also looking for a Kindergarten teacher who is experienced with
the emergent curriculum model, believes in learning through play and is
able to create a nurturing and stimulating learning environment. This
teacher would join our dynamic early childhood team working with PK3,
PK4 and K classes. The teacher will also work closely with the
elementary team to ensure a smooth transition for students as they enter
grade 1, and to ensure continuity in the program.

If you would like to start an informal discussion about the positions,
school or life in Khartoum please contact me at bwaugh@krtams.org. If
not, you can apply for either position by e-mailing the school's
director, Phil Clinton, at pclinton@krtams.org with a cover letter,
statement of educational philosophy and current CV (with references).
