several things: poetry slam, desperate for Mac mice/keyboards, Summercore

Three diverse things to share!

1) If you teach 7th graders or are looking for a online project for your
7th graders, you may be interested in the Poetry Slam Spring 2008 run by
Keith Mack and Bill Ivey. We at The Children's Storefront in Harlem have
had a wonderful video conferencing (VC) relationship with Bill's 7th
graders at Stoneleigh-Burnham in Massachusetts using video Skype which
works so well with Macbooks ... if you join this Poetry Slam which is
described at http://www.literacyworkshop.org/poetryslam and want to video
conference with our 7th graders, that would be wonderful. The Poetry Slam
is an annual event but is NOT limited to 7th graders ... The Literacy
Workshop is described as "an online community of educators devoted to
improving literacy with focus on middle grades."

2) We are continuing to run our monthly "Tech Saturdays in Harlem" giving
away refurbished computers to families without hardware access. You can
read about this at http://www.thechildrensstorefront.org/ts/ and the next
one is 7 days from today. We are DESPERATE for Mac mice and Mac keyboards.
If you have even 1 or 2 extras and can ship to us ASAP, I would be
tremendously appreciative. The shipping address is Steve Bergen, The
Children's Storefront, 70 East 129th Street, New York, NY 10035 ... thanks
in advance!

3) Summercore is beginning to fill up and we have three "open to the
public" sessions in July in NY and FL. Summercore is designed for K-12
teachers of all ages and all stages: from novices to administrators to
skilled users to computer coordinators. Summercore is a unique 5 day
computer workshop that two of us have designed to energize teachers into
becoming far more involved in integrating technology into the classroom.
Over 2400 have attended Summercore from 1985 to 2006 and it has been
described repeatedly by Independent School teachers as the "far and away
the VERY BEST training session ever attended." Please direct any
interested colleagues to http://www.summercore.com/ to learn more and to
see dates and specifics. Thanks!
