Re: 21st Century Computer Skills

I think a better way is to integrate Teacher 1 model with the Teacher 2
model. The T1 model is still happening today, and I believe it provides
good structure for the education. By adding the T2 model, we can add
creativity and fun into the curriculum. An example would be a science fair
projects made out of paper and cardboard, and having the students give a
presentation about their subject.

I think if you eliminate the T1 model, the student would not understand how
to to craft a well made document following basic rules.

--------------------------------------------------------
Here is what I have seen in which T1 and T2 are combined:
In a Chinese class, the teacher would use her standard way of teaching a
Chinese class. She understands that the T1 model (or a variation of T1)
will help the student learn how to write and read Chinese characters
quickly, but it does not help with the verbal expression of Chinese.

To utilize the T2 model, she decided to give a class project using Podcasts.
Students can make it a video podcast or audio only podcast. In this way,
the student will have to communicate in Chinese, explore a particular
fascination in the language (the topic of dating was the boy's favorite),
and discover new words.

In the end, the T1 structure provides a way for student to learn written
communication, while she uses the T2 to enhance the verbal communication.

--------------------------------------------------------
It is my belief that T1 provides structure and foundation, and T2 provides a
means of creativity to enhance T1. If we eliminate the T1 model in favor of
T2, then we are not preparing the student for college in which the T1 model
is used regularly.
