Re: Student Information System

We are in the midst of a serious look at a number of SIS products. As
valuable as recommendations from other schools/users are, I think that
it is more important to treat the search for a new SIS in a more
formal way. Get a group of users from various constituencies (staff,
administrators, teachers, parents? students?), come up with a list of
things that you must have and would like to have, and then deliver
that list to as many SIS vendors as you can find. Let them try to
sell to you and make sure that they at least meet your minimum
expectations.

We're partway through the process right now (all vendors have
submitted their responses to our RFP) and we've found the process
itself to be very valuable. In the next 4 weeks, we will be
evaluating the SIS vendor responses and we will invite 3-4 vendors to
campus in September to show off their product to our SIS search
committee.
