Intel ClassMate information

We have had a successful 1 to 1 laptop program for almost 10 years, but
we would like to expand our access to lower grades. Our students are
required to purchase a laptop when entering our laptop program, but we
do not want our parents to have to purchase two laptops during their
time at our school. Therefore, I am researching less expensive solutions
(less than $500) that will enable us to achieve most of our educational
goals.

I would also like a smaller form factor due to the size of student desks
and I would like for it to weigh 3lbs or less. I was impressed with the
Asus Eee PC but the keyboard was a little small. This may ultimately end
up as the best option. I would love to demo Intel's Classmate but I
cannot get anyone to return my emails. I have heard that this model will
not be available for quite some time. If anyone has information about
this model, I would love your input.=20

Others of interest include the OLPC XO-1 - Is this program over? How
does the Everex CloudBook compare to the Asus? How about the Nova 5000?
I think Samsung has a competitive model as well.=20

I would also love to arrange a comparative analysis at our next AATE
(Atlanta Area Technology Educator) meeting if I can narrow down the list
to the top three. Your perspective and feedback is tremendously
appreciated.

Thank you,
Connie
