to any administrator coming to NAIS NYC re Wed/Thurs special event in Harlem

please share this with any administrator coming to NAIS in NYC next week
... thanks much ... TGIF ... Steve

We at The Children's Storefront are offering an evening tour of our school
-- one of the few tuition free Independent Schools in America -- and the
opportunity to meet Michael Lewis and Kamal King from the Harlem Wireless
Initiative. The collaboration between The Children's Storefront and the
Harlem Wireless Initiative has resulted in an amazing confluence of
generosity and support from the Independent School world both in NYC and
around the country. The program we have started is called Tech Saturdays
in Harlem and in the words of one colleague -- "this never would have
gotten off the ground without the generosity and independence of the
Independent School world."

Tech people from Horace Mann School, Convent of the Sacred Heart in NYC,
Columbia Grammar and Prep School, The School at Columbia University and
St. John's Prep in Danvers MA have donated dozens of hours of tech time to
help get this endeavor off the ground. Over 15 Independent Schools around
the country including Dalton School, Marymount School, St. Bernard's
School, Friends Seminary, Chapin School, Brearley School, St. David's
School, Cathedral School, Packer-Collegiate, The Churchill School all in
NYC as well as Village School from CA , The Pingry School from NJ, The
Castilleja School from CA, The Powhatan School in VA and Dedham Country
Day School & Park School from Boston (home of the 2004 and 2007 World
Series Red Sox) have donated over 100 old Macs and PCs and hardware to
help launch this program. We have had "student tech interns" from schools
as far as Dana Hall School in Boston travel to volunteer time on a Tech
Saturday Computer GiveAway. We have been featured on NY1 television and in
the Daily News. See the Web page of
http://www.thechildrensstorefront.org/ts for these clips and overview of
this unique program to give away free computers to families in Harlem and
to get them Internet connected!
