Re: ISED filtering for elementary school

Here is what we use for security.

Filtering:
Spam - Barracuda Networks
Content - Marshal 8e6
IDS - DeepNines
Application Control - Impulse Safeware (NAC)
General Firewall - Fortinet

This combination of products works well. =20
I can regulate client bandwidth and connectivity based on the services I al=
low.

Example:
We generally have about 550 concurrent users (with chat and Facebook blocke=
d)
If I allow chat the number rises to about 650 concurrent users.
If I allow Facebook the number skyrockets to about 800.
(the teachers still have not found a use for Facebook during class so it re=
mains blocked)

We use the DeepNines box as an IDS, Filter and throttle bandwidth.
Our students are set at 200kbs, while faculty get 1mb .

If you're looking for a single good multi-function "filter", I recommend De=
epNines.

Subject: ISED filtering for elementary school

Hello to all,

Our K-8 school is currently using an appliance, 3-COM, for filtering purpos=
es. The down side is that the filtering is based on MAC addresses, with no =
ability to filter by group.
We are looking into better options- Barracuda appliance seems to be a worth=
while option.
Does anyone have any experience with Barracuda? We are using Active directo=
ry and terminal services.

Any other recommendations?

Thanks,

Daiva
