Security concerns are the primary reasons (viruses/Trojans/spyware,
hacking, casing) with support a close second.
We have a VLAN set up off a DMZ of our firewall that provides throttled
Internet access. This VLAN is accessible via a second SSID on our AP's
that's completely open. You can also jack into any switch port, and if
your MAC address isn't known to our RADIUS server, you'll also be thrown
onto that guest VLAN. In the future, we'll probably add captive
authentication to this Internet access to prevent neighborhood abuse,
but if we do so we'll need to work out access for guests/parents/etc.

Subject: Connecting Nonschool issued laptops to your school's network
Afternoon,
=20
What is the general opinion of tech director's and network managers
regarding nonschool issued laptops to connect to the school's network?
=20
Does your school also allow internet access with nonschool issued
laptops?
=20
If your school does allow network access, what policies(please share)do
you have in place regarding support for these nonschool issued machines?
=20
What prerequisites does your school have for the guest machine to
attach? Antivirus, patches, spyware protection etc.?
Thanks for your assistance.
