Unfortunately, I don't have any suggestions for your need regarding a quick
solution to progress reports in your time of transition. However, your
question prompted me to get in touch because you mentioned that your
transition has to do with switching to a standards-based approach. I'm new
in my position at a school that's had a standards-based curriculum and
grading system in place for the past seven years. The current database
solution for grades is a FileMaker Pro database that my predecessor
developed with the help of an alumnus with significant programming
experience (apparently there were no viable commercial solutions available
at the time that supported the standards-based approach). Unfortunately,
the system has some real "kinks" and limitations, and I'm finding myself
somewhat frustrated by the lack of solid technical support for current
issues, and the seeming difficulty we'll be facing as we refine and further
develop the curriculum in the future. So, I'm curious - what database
solution has your school settled upon for your grading needs? Does it also
serve as your database for student information including biographical,
scheduling, attendance, and discipline records? I'd appreciate any
suggestions or references you could send my way.
Best regards,
-JP

Subject: Progress Report Software suggestions?
We are looking for a simple/quick/inexpensive solution to a problem that we
are having- does anyone have any suggestions for an online progress report
solution? We are looking for a temporary solution since the database we are
looking to implement will
have this availability. Our current database will not allow for the
standards based approach to grading that we have implemented and we need a
way (a band-aid of sorts) for teachers to do their comments and export into
a printable progress report.
Please let me know how your school has addressed this and what solutions you
might recommend.
Thank you!
