Re: Apple.com Traffice

It is almost certainly updates but you might want to dig into that traffic stat a little more. It has been a while since I had access to a Cymphonic but I believe iTunes downloads (music, movies, etc.) used to show in that category. Other things to consider are:

--Macs love to check the time. Switch all of them to a local time server.
--A number of mac apps (especially iTunes) will check for updates each time. Disable it in the app too.
--iTunes loves to check for CD track names. You can turn that off too.
--If you are using parental controls to help filter the internet the block list is pulled down frequently. Turn that off if you don't needed.
--See if any staff are using mobile me to backup or have a mounted disk. Some times that shows up as apple too.
--If you allow iphones/ipad to connect, app downloads and push notifications, I believe are automatic traffic. (again it has been awhile)

Finally if it is just your software updates, consider having your apple server (or acquiring a mac mini server) download them and set your macs to install from the local server copy so that your computers get the updates without consuming the internet pipe.

Subject: Apple.com Traffice

Hi Everyone,

I have noticed a significant slowdown on my network lately. I checked
my Cymphonix box and noticed that almost 50% of my traffic in the past
month is to Apple.com listed as Automatic Traffic (which is usually
updates or similar). We are 75% PC here, so I am trying to figure out
what is going on. Has anyone had a similar problem? Are there some
sort of auto updates happening on newer Macs that I need to go and turn
off?

Thanks,
