Re: Archiving solution required

Many thanks for the swift response.=20

Apologies again for the lack of clarity.

We do have a comprehensive backup strategy utilizing ArcServe and CDP =
devices both on-site and off-site.

What I am searching for is a DVD archive unit for transcripts. I had =
came across a device some weeks ago but was reckless not to Diigo it.

Many thanks for your help.

Instead of using a tape drive? I had to ask these questions because I =
want
to make sure you pick the right solution for the task. I have never =
seen a
system that utilizes DVDs as their main backup system.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linear_Tape-Open
One LTO3 tape can hold up to 400GB of data.
One LTO4 tape can hold up to 800GB of data

If you do DVDs, you might be looking at 91 DVDs in one backup vs. 1 LTO3
tape. Plus on top of that, you can get a solution that can =
automatically
rotate disks for you (autoloader).

- Quantum SuperLoader 3
- Overland Storage NEO 200s
- HP StorageWorks 1/8 G2 Tape Autoloader

As for the software, you can find a lot of software that can do a tape
recovery.
- Symantec Backup Exec (we use this one)
- Arcserve
- Novabackup
- many more...

Is this what you are thinking about? I hope this information helps you. =
If
you need a contact in Taiwan to ask for advice locally, I know of a =
personal
friend who is an administrator in Taipei.
