Re: Website Blocker

Renee,

A cheap solution would be to use OpenDNS (http://www.opendns.com/) on
your network. I've used this with great success at a few of my clients
plus I use it at home. You simply need to configure your internal DNS
servers to use OpenDNS as forwarders and then you can configure an
account to set up the filtering.

However, I have not seen anything for time-based filtering. Nor is there
a provision for user-based filtering. The biggest thing I like about
OpenDNS is that it helps prevent phishing attacks.

Subject: Website Blocker

I was wondering if anyone is using something on their network to block
specific websites both to the entire network as well as to specific
users? =20

I am not looking for a content filter, I just want to be able block
certain sites on my entire campus and block other sites to specific
users. I have tried putting in dns entries, but I had some problems
with entries becoming corrupt. =20

Even more ideal, would be a way to block sites during certain times of
the day. For example, my teachers and administrators want to use
Facebook, but I only want them to have access when our network is not
needed by students so before 8 a.m. and after 3 p.m. But...the time
thing would just be a plus.

Thanks,
