Re: questions about advisor system

Ms. Gonnelly,

Our Advisor period meets on Wednesdays from 8:15 to 8:45. We do not have a
training period for our advisors--that, however, would be a good idea. I
think we do a pretty good job keeping our advisees with their advisors for
the time they spend at our school. Advisors will sponsor a variety of
activities (group outings, dinners, athletic events, pizza parties,
etc.)with their advisees. We have given topics for Advisors to discuss in
the past. We did not do it that much this last year, but we will this
coming year. Topics will include: SAT/ACT prep, integrity, community
service, bullying, selfless-service, etc., etc.

Subject: questions about advisor system

Dear Colleague,

In my position as Academic Dean, I have been asked to take a look at our
advisor system between teachers and students. I would like to ask you a
few questions about your advisor system, if you indeed have one, and would
appreciate it if you could take a few minutes to respond.

1. How often, how long a period and at what time of the day do teachers
meet with their advisees?
2. Do you have a training period for teachers to make them more effective
advisors?
3. Does an advisee normally stay with the same advisor for all 4 years?
4. Do you have advisor/advisee days or specific activities?
5. Is the advisor period structured (for example, are topics given to
discuss)?
