ISED on a Blog

Dear ISED Colleagues,

Thank you all for exploring the blog topic so avidly and so thoroughly. A
more thoughtful and detailed reply is coming -- this time from Curt's
e-mail. As usual, people have lots to say.

I wish I had been more timely about raising this issue with the list, but
like all of you I have lots to do at school... and that takes precedent.
Though we wish Peter had shared his initial idea with the moderators, it
is not a bad idea. He was innovating -- exactly what people do in the
flat world.

While we all have passionate opinions about virtual information issues,
there is no blame. It's something to figure out -- so we asked for your
help -- ensuring that everyone knows and understands in what direction the
list is moving. All of us have been reminded, once again, that our words
are everywhere. My 85 year old father, a retired minister and college
professor, regularly repeats a four-word answer for me whenever we discuss
the issue of privacy and information -- "Think and write well."

Finally, there are a lot of dedicated subscribers on the list, responding
regularly and sharing top-notch opinions, however keep in mind that many,
many others read everything, but lurk, sending only the occasional
posting. Sometimes their opinions are sent to the managers because they
are shy about expressing views and doubly shy about it when so many
extremely competent and knowledgeable teachers are participating and
responding so enthusiastically. It's critical that this latter group
understand exactly how things are changing.

... so many wonderful opportunities to expand in so many virtual
directions -- the NING being only one great example. We are pleased that
people have good ideas, express varied opinions, and share them here,
helping each of us grow a bit.

Best,
Marti
