Re: Virtual Communities for newly admitted students and families

We do this through our Finalsite hosted website. We use their portals for
various constituencies (Faculty/Staff, Students, Parents, Alums) and also
for our Accepted Students group.

Our acceptance letters that get snail-mailed include a username & password
(one per family) and the URL for the portal. From that point on, all our
communications with the families is electronic rather than paper. The
enrollment (and decline) forms are online forms through Finalsite. We use
the main Accepted Student portal page for announcements and updates on the
Admissions/Enrollment process. Eventually, we post tentative schedules on
the portal pages for enrolled students and we use the Finalsite eNotify
system to send out emails to the different groups of accepted students
(enrolled, declined, not-yet-decideds).

Early in the summer, we migrate the enrolled students and parents over to
our regular student and parent portals.

We've found the process to be very successful.
