We use 7-year cycles for both projectors and SMART Boards. Our 7-year old
boards are failing to hold their orientation or to orient properly with
some frequency; our vendor tells us that's because the mesh in the Board
wears out after a time. Our 7-year-old projectors don't have sufficient
resolution to show information comfortably, and some are incompatible with
newer interactive whiteboards. Your mileage may vary :-).
Good luck!
