have had one pen tray that got damaged, but that happened over the summer =
it was the cleaning people not the kids. Other than that no problems at =
all. And I'm pushing 5 years on some of our projectors, again with no =
problems.

10 years for the board itself, and 5 years for LCD projectors. =20
The Smartboard itself seems pretty indestructible, maybe needing to
replace the pen tray or some cables before the 10 years.
I think some LCD projectors could actually last much longer than 5
years, but if the cost of a replacement bulb is more than 2/3 what I can
buy a new, brighter projector for, I generally say replace it. However,
if the projector is working fine and bright enough and the bulb is less
than 2/3 the cost for replacement, then replace the bulb and keep the
project another couple of years. =20

I'm wondering how folks are doing long range budget planning vis a vis
Smart Boards and LCD projectors? We apply life cycle management with our
campus computers, expecting four years of service from each machine.
What are the life expectations for a Smart Board, for an LCD projector?
Is anyone updating/replacing these items on a recurring basis or is it a
replace upon fail policy? When and how do you decide to upgrade to
brighter projectors, better boards?
