We opened our new high school during our homecoming weekend festivities in
August 2009 with the traditional ribbon cutting ceremony. Prior to that,
and as the building was being constructed, we selected a key beam for all
our cadets, parents, faculty and staff to sign and leave short messages
before it was hoisted in place. The event was photographed and is
represented in the new building, along with a replica of the beam. It was a
special ceremony that was well received by all. As an aside, we "sold" all
the other construction beams for $1,000. Beam "owners" received a memento
and recognition on a replica beam currently on display in the high school.
Because we were applying for LEED certification, the signed beam was
painted green. The entire signing ceremony was very well received by
our constituents.
