Free (or nearly free) April events

EdTechTeacher is offering several free (or nearly free) workshops and
webinars for history, science, and world language teachers: Teaching
Peace and Conflict Studies with Technology: The Russian/Georgian War;
Teaching Science with Web 2.0; and Teaching a Foreign Language with
Technology.

Teaching Peace and Conflict Studies with Technology: The
Russian/Georgian War, April 23-24, 2010;
This event will examine peace and conflict studies by considering the
2008 war between Russia and Georgia and will feature lectures on the
history of Russian/Georgian relations by Dr. John Schoeberlein,
Director of the Program on Central Asia and the Caucasus at Harvard,
and the Russian/Georgian war and its aftermath by Dr. Peter Rutland of
Wellesley College. Day two (April 24th) will be will be led by
EdTechTeacher's Tom Daccord and is devoted to learning to use Diigo--a
social bookmarking tool. Social bookmarking allows communities of
students to conduct online research in groups, by tagging websites
with shared keywords, annotating, and commenting on them. Participants
will come away from this workshop not only with new academic,
pedagogical, and technical information and skills, as well as a new
tool to use in the classroom.

The workshop will be held on the campus of Harvard University in
Cambridge, MA. Cost is $20 and professional development credits are

Teaching Science with Web 2.0 Wednesday April 21 at 4pm EST
Join Tom and David Strasburger Wednesday, April 21 at 4:00 EST for a
free, live webinar hosted by EdTechTeacher. Tom and David will present
on ways to use Web 2.0 technologies to enrich the study of biology,
chemistry, physics and other sciences. David is Science Department
Head, Physics Teacher, and Faculty Evaluation Member at the Noble and
Greenough School in Dedham, Massachusetts, and recipient of the Vernon
L. Greene award for Faculty Excellence. David will also be leading the
Teaching Science with Web 2.0 Summer workshop June 24-25 in Boston.

Teaching a Foreign Language with Technology Thursday April 29 at 4pm EST
Join Tom and Erin McCloskey for a free, live webinar Thursday April
29th at 4pm EST, on using technology in the Foreign Language
classroom. Tom and Erin will present some of the best Foreign Language
resource web sites and innovative tools to help students practice and
improve their speaking, listening and writing skills. Erin is a
doctoral candidate in the Learning and Teaching program at the Harvard
Graduate School of Education (HGSE), and prior to doctoral studies
Erin was a high school Spanish teacher, EFL teacher, and language
curriculum developer. Erin will also be leading the Teaching a Foreign
Language with Technology summer workshop July 29-30 in Boston.
