Re: ISED-foreign language offerings and requirements

In a message dated 4/27/2010 11:39:50 A.M. Pacific Daylight Time,
jim.dunaway@kinkaid.org writes:

1. What foreign languages (classical and modern) do you offer?
French K-12
Spanish 3-12
Chinese 6-12
Latin 7-12

2. At what levels do you offer them?
Grade levels above -- AP in all 4, plus Honors French Lit. and Honors Latin
Lit that replace the AP Lit courses the CB stopped offering.

3. What is the language requirement at each level.
All students take 1 language K-8. We encourage them to change
infrequently -- only when we add another language to the mix.

In the Upper School (9-12) all students must take 3 years of the same
language to graduate. That means that most people who have been with us since at
least Middle School take 5 or 6 years of the same language. A few students
(5%?) take a second World Language in Upper School. It's not possible
before that.
