John,

I had the exact same problem with a batch earlier this summer. I don't
remember detail for detail what I clicked on, but I think I can get you
close...

On startup boot into the systems bios settings. Along the left column find
the option for hard drive or ATA setting. Of the three settings available,
change it to the middle one. I think it is just standard or serial ATA.

Then, as another e-mailer just said, install XP, download the drivers from
Dell and enable the more advanced setting and you should be set to go!
