Re: microphone for miniDV camcorder

I sent this to my video guy. Here is his reply:

Two choices here - if the camera has a microphone jack you can get a
handheld one (like what a TV reporter holds.) This will give good audio
for one person. The other choice in this area is a lapel microphone.
This is small and clips on to you. This is what the use on talk shows.
These will help when the audio is one person. If you are filming a group
you have less choices. They do sell external microphones but he newest
canons do not have a "shoe" on top to mount the microphones. We have
some old Sony's that do and microphones for them. If you move up to
higher end HD camcorders then you have more choices for microphones.
Radio Shack sells a lapel mic for about $30.
