You might also take a look at the Conserve School in Wisconsin
(www.conserveschool.org). During their ramping up period, I became
intrigued when I heard about the emphasis they would be putting on
Chinese language study (since China is having an increasing role in the
environment globally). Nearly half of their kids took Chinese the year
they opened (2002).=20

Hi,
My name is Kimberly Jones. I am the Chair of the Board of an independent
school in formation in Chittenden County, Vermont, just south of
Burlington.=20
Opening in phases beginning in 2008, Champlain Valley Independent School
will promote a commitment to life-long environmental responsibility by
incorporating ecology, sustainability education and conservation
principles
throughout its program, an effort captured in the School's motto "green
school, green future." In so doing it hopes to ultimately become the
greenest school in Vermont, and one of the top twenty greenest in the
nation. You can read more about us at cvischool.org.
As you all would know better than most, starting a school is no small
project. Indeed, it is huge. Even the subprojects are large.=20
One subproject I was hoping that perhaps some of you might be helpful
with,
is curriculum development. We are working on building a rigorous, yet
joyful
curriculum that is particularly strong in math and science and is
interwoven
with environmental education. If any of you have any suggestions in this
regard, or detailed curricula you might be willing to let us look at we
would be most grateful.=20
Any other suggestions are of course welcomed as well! By the way, some
of
you may perhaps know one member of our Board, Cammy Passarella, formerly
Lower School and Assistant Head of Potomac School. She is my Mom!
Thanks so much,
Kim Jones
