Hello,

I am doing some research on private tutoring and private schools and I
would like to hear from other schools about their experiences with
this
phenomenon.

Specifically, I'd like to know:

Does your school have a policy about allowing private tutors to work
with
students on campus? We do not allow this.

Are private tutors screened (CORI check or other)?

Any sense (estimate/guess) of how many students have private tutors? I
believe many, many of our students have private tutors - from SAT tutors
to writing tutors to tutors for math.

For what subject/reasons do your students seek private tutors? See
above.

Does you school have an academic support center/learning center? If
so,
how many students are seen for tutoring "in house"? We have a Writing
Center where seniors who have taken a special English course can help
students with their papers.

Does your school have part time/full time tutors on the faculty? NO

Why might students seek private tutoring as opposed to using their
school's in house learning center? Our first recommendation for a
student struggling in a subject is to see their teacher. Parents may
seek a private tutor for that extra help.

I would really love to hear others' perspectives on the topic!

Many thanks,
Laura
