When we moved to an outsourced web-host option, Finalsite, we made a
conscious decision to divide our website responsibilities along logical
lines. We do not have a webmaster or communication person and did not want a
single point of failure.
Teachers are doing a great job with their portals or web pages, but training
for some administrative groups (Admissions, Alumni, Athletics, Special
Porgarms) is an issue. These areas want some fairly sophisticated
features/outcomes, yet they have not been as willing as needed to invest
their time in learning the skills required to create their desired outcomes.
This is especially true when there is a new hire or turnover in personnel.
We are wrestling with this situation and would welcome hearing the approach
other schools are using in this time of tight budgets.
