Re: Looking for a database that represents records as objects located in a virtual 3D space

Hello, Fred,

I'd focus on looking for tools that helped visualize data coming from different sources, as opposed to an actual database app. This way, the data can be completely separate from the presentation, and data from disparate sources can be displayed alongside each other. Also, open standards have a role to play here; there have been some amazing mashups done with data from wikipedia that is exposed via RDFa.

Digg labs has some great visualization; and the Simile project out of MIT is another good place to look.

Cheers,

Bill

The reason for this?

Imagine if every student could interact in 3D with their own data set of a
collection of objects representing a school's curriculum. See more on this
idea here: http://eva2.wikispaces.com/A+New+Operating+System+for+School
