Re: Salary again

Tim,
This is tough to gauge. I have been in schools in IL, CO , and now MA. The
Dir of Tech makes the most and holds a senior admin position. Should be in
the 70K+ range, but that depends on your area as well. It would be great to
say that this position should make 1/2 of the headmaster's salary and then
you could just look on guidestar.org and figure it out. The whole issue
with independent schools is the lack of transparency with regards to
salary. It would help your negotiations to have some data, but it is all
over the place and may not be that helpful. Compare to the public school
(that data should be easily available to you) and shoot for between 70 and
100 % of that salary figure. If your position is merely adding months, that
will most likely be figured pro-rated on what yo make now. An increase in
responsibility should be an increase in salary. In this economy, you may
have to get something in writing for the future as well. I have seen the
same position be anywhere from $40k - $115K depending on the school and
location.

Good luck. I hate negotiating and don't envy you.
