of calls as the techs would just take a deep breath when I would mention
TTL4. However, every time I called, they made it seem like I was the
only one. =20
Emailing tech support was no help as I would only get formula responses
that never helped. Calling was usually no better as the tech would say
they would look into it and then never get back to me.
We are mostly PC, but many of my students have Macs at home. I have
found 10.5 to be a bit better than 10.4. (I am not sure which version
you have.) I was never able to get it working consistantly on the few
eMacs or iBooks we have at the school running 10.4. The 10 newer iMacs
we have running 10.5 seem to run it fine.
Then just to add "insult to injury" Sunburst decides to put out a
"mandatory" update less than a week before school starts. I am sure
most of us spent our summer reimaging all our student computers, then
Sunburst puts out an update when school starts. That is just poor
planning!
I too was a Sunburst fan for many years, but I will never buy another
product from them again.

Subject: Re: Typing software recommendations?
We have had nothing but headaches from Type To Learn 4. We moved to it
after using TTL3 for quite a few years, but then had MacIntel problems
with the program quitting unexpectedly and other small errors. We have
had the program since it came out and have never had ti fully
functioning. We spent much of the year wither trying to get a hold of
support or talking to one person in support not willing to give us much
help and going as far as evading our phone calls. We finally decided to
give it one more try this year with the updates they had posted and
still no luck having it run successfully. This time we went back to the
vendor for assistance and as we suspected, he to had no luck in
obtaining any answers or true support for our issue.
It is sad that we feel like we wasted such a good chunk of money on
upgrading, but have learned our lesson and also turned us off on a
company that I used to know as a stellar provider of educational
software. In the past 20 plus years I have used many Sunburst products
and never been as disappointed as we have been with this latest version
of TTL. So we are moving beyond that and going with Typing Pal. It is
good to hear that others are finding this successful. I really like the
idea of the true online access, where students can extend their learning
beyond time in the classroom.
