As there has been some confusion concerning the recently announced Office 3=
65 offering from Microsoft, I hope to provide some information and resource=
s as it relates to the education sector.
Office 365 for Education is the new brand name of Online Services for the e=
ducational sector, including the current Live@edu offering.
One important item to understand is that Office 365 is not a new 'version' =
office hosted in the cloud. Microsoft is introducing a new subscription ba=
sed licensing model for the locally installed Office 2010 Suite client soft=
ware. Authentication for use rights of the software is expected to have an=
online component, but the software will be installed locally and run witho=
ut an Internet connection.
