Re: email conundrum, please help

Hi Jim,

If you can repeat what you outlined below, that is a good start to figuring=
this out. Email used to be simple and travel from one mail server to anot=
her mail server and then get delivered to a recipient. Now, there are many=
options. I would start out your sleuthing with confirming that your compu=
ter did not deposit the email into a junk folder etc. Once that has been e=
liminated as a possibility I would ask the sender to confirm that they did =
not receive any error message from their provider. If you still have no an=
swers I would ask your hosting company to run a trace on the email in quest=
ion. They should be able to see the email connection attempt etc.

Failing all of the above, it is possible that your hosting company is on a =
blacklist unknowingly. This typically does not happen with large hosting c=
ompanies and usually does not effect incoming email. For example, we have =
had problems sending to yahoo.com because our email header (the part you ty=
pically cannot see in an email) says it is coming from somewhere it is not.

Hope this gets you started in your sleuthing,
m

Dear group, perhaps one (or many of you) could help me understand
this. Our school has a third party hosting our email (@kentschool.org)
accounts. Recently, I've been getting wind of people trying to send
emails to our teachers that are simply disappearing-neither received
nor bounced back as undeliverable. One of my advisee parents sent me
an email to both my personal verizon.net address and my school
(kentschool.org) address. The one addressed to my verizon account came
right through in good order, but the one to my school address never
arrived. I'm hopeful that someone can help explain to me how an email
can simply disappear like that, and/or how I might help our third
party host to fix this problem. There are no restrictions (blacklists,
filters, etc.) on my school account.

Thanks,

Jim Landskroener
