Re: email conundrum, please help

I would also check if this is more likely to occur from mail sent by people
within your network than from (physically) outside your network (ie, in a
classroom, or from their home).

I have seen setups where, inside a network, email from the same domain got
routed to localhost.

To try and replicate/troubleshoot this, have the same student send you three
emails to your work and personal email; 1 from the location where it was sent
(and didn't arrive originally); 1 from a different physical location inside the
school network; and 1 from a physical location outside your school network. The
text of the three emails should be identical; just change the title to reflect
the location. And, to be clear, this assumes that your network covers more than
a small area, and is more than a single server/single router.

And with that said, there are a slew of possible reasons why this could be
happening - this could also be the result of sporadic, short lived service
disruptions on the part of your external mail provider. In any case, I hope this
helps.

Cheers,

Bill

Jim,

The mail could be in a delay status right now.
Mail can queue, delay or bounce if your system is out of mailbox space (drive
space).

I would check storage before looking into routing issues. (your smtp settings
look fine according to mxtoolbox.com)

Subject: email conundrum, please help

Dear group, perhaps one (or many of you) could help me understand this. Our
school has a third party hosting our email (@kentschool.org) accounts. Recently,
I've been getting wind of people trying to send emails to our teachers that are
simply disappearing-neither received nor bounced back as undeliverable. One of
my advisee parents sent me an email to both my personal verizon.net address and
my school
(kentschool.org) address. The one addressed to my verizon account came right
through in good order, but the one to my school address never arrived. I'm
hopeful that someone can help explain to me how an email can simply disappear
like that, and/or how I might help our third party host to fix this problem.
There are no restrictions (blacklists, filters, etc.) on my school account.

Thanks,

Jim Landskroener
