will actually keep the lights on for you.
Ning isn't giving away free accounts - these entry level accounts (capped at 150
people, with a stripped down featureset) are sponsored by Pearson:
http://about.ning.com/pearsonsponsorship/ This sponsorship is currently set for
"up to three years" (from the FAQs on the above link).
So, if you are concerned about the longevity of your network, or having a
network free from branding/scrutiny from the largest textbook manufacturer in
the world, or want to ensure the privacy of the people joining your network,
replacing Ning would be a good move.
For content that can be ephemeral, or for very simple, short-term needs, Ning
can be an excellent choice. As with any work, it depends on making sure the
technology aligns with your strategic goals.
Cheers,
Bill

Why do we need to replace Nings? They are giving free school basic accounts.
If Ning is working, I would say stay with it.

Subject: Interesting new free online LMS and possible replacement for Ning?
Hi everyone,
I just came across Schoology (schoology.com) a very interesting
service that's designed as a combination LMS and social networking
site. From the demo, it seems to have great functionality and could
serve as a possible replacement for Ning.
Anyone using this or know anything more about it? Looks pretty cool.
