Re: Google Docs

WE have been using Google Docs, and that is part of the risk you take. I th=
ink you have to have basic trust and, as in papers that may be writing usin=
g other word processing programs, go with your gut when you have suspicions=
. I think we have an obligation to be optimistic. Our students sign on to=
our google domain. We are collaborators on the paper and can view the hist=
ory,etc I find that to be a pretty helpful tool ( as well as somewhat revea=
ling about study times and habits+. Outlines should be the first step and =
those can, and perhaps should,be created in class . The paper is not writt=
en until approval has been given at that step You can require and schedule =
some of the writing to be done in class as a gauge .=20
Hope this helps. What we are talking about is not so much google docs at a=
ll here, but ethics and honesty. Kind of sad.

Subject: Google Docs

For those of you using Google Docs at your school......

We are implementing a pilot program for Google Docs this year. There are so=
me concerns from the English Dept. about who writes the papers. Could you p=
lease let us know how you have handled this type of situation?

from a concerned teacher....
>I don't know if I want to do this, however I'm definitely willing to give =
it a try. I talked with
xxx
> at length about this last year and it seems to me that there are some big=
loopholes. I know all about them signing on etc. at home but there is no =
way of knowing who is doing the actual writing once a kid signs on. It cou=
ld be parents, tutor,
>anybody. Convince me how to assure that that it is definitely the kids w=
riting and I'll sign on.

Thanks for your help!
Stephanie
