I would like to second and third and even thirty-third Thomas Malone's
comment about the Doug Lemov book Teach Like a Champion. I have been
teaching since 1973 and love every aspect of this profession. I remember
telling one of my math professors (Ernie Schlessinger) in college in 1971
that I wanted to teach high school (and not go on to get my PhD). He
slammed the door and put his face in my face and screamed at me, telling
me how stupid that was. I wonder which of the 49 techniques he was using;-)
I knew then and still know now that I love teaching (both kids and
adults). As I started teaching, I created my own style and invented my own
techniques. Now, 37 years later, I have a mirror in Doug Lemov's book to
examine in depth each of my own invented techniques and think about how I
could do it differently and do it better. Thank you, Mr. Lemov, for the
gift you have given the world.
